Dan Strechay is our guest today in Episode 1255 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.” Dan Strechay from RSPO.org is the U.S. Representative, Outreach & Engagement for the Roundtable On Sustainable Palm Oils (RSPO). Based in New York, he is responsible for outreach and engagement activities to members and stakeholders in North America, as well as formalizing the RSPO’s presence in this important market.
RSPO is a not-for-profit that unites stakeholders from the 7 sectors of the palm oil industry: oil palm producers, processors or traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks/investors, and environmental and social non-governmental organisations (NGOs), to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil. The RSPO has developed a set of environmental and social criteria which companies must comply with in order to produce Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO). When they are properly applied, these criteria can help to minimize the negative impact of palm oil cultivation on the environment and communities in palm oil-producing regions.
Listen in today as Jimmy and Dan talk about why people should care about sustainable palm oil, why there seems to be so much attention on palm oil verse other oils, whether we should just boycott palm oil and use something else, and what we can do as consumers to support sustainable palm oil production.
