Austin, TX-based fitness and health experts and PaleoFX founders Keith and Michelle Norris are our guests today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Something special happened down there on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, Texas in the middle of March 2012. After Keith and Michelle Norris had a meeting of the minds with Kevin Cottrell just 150 days earlier envisioning a conference that would foster collaboration among fitness professionals, healthcare professionals, nutritionists, research scientists and laypersons who approach their respective practices from an evolutionary perspective in order to successfully address modern health challenges through the application of ancestral based theory in practice, even they were skeptical they could pull it off.

But that's precisely what they did when the inaugural PaleoFX Ancestral Momentum - Theory to Practice Symposium officially got underway on March 14, 2012 at the Stark Center during the same week as the uber-popular South By Southwest (SXSW) music and film festival. Austin was hopping busy, but that didn't stop Paleo enthusiasts from having a great time learning and engaging in PaleoFX!

From the volunteers (the real heroes of this event!) who worked tirelessly to make this event an overwhelming success to the many guest speakers and panelists who shared from their wisdom and experience, this was one of the most interactive nutritional health conferences Jimmy has ever been to! And Keith and Michelle will be the first to tell you that they would not have been able to pull off landing so many excellent guest speakers for PaleoFX without the commitment and dedication of one key player--Robb Wolf. Despite his wife being great with child, Robb agreed to come for one day of the conference and the domino effect attracting many other big names like Mark Sisson, Chris Kresser, Dr. Jack Kruse and others inevitably followed. Robb was truly one of the superstars at the event and here's the first two minutes of his talk at #PFX12:

Medical doctor and nutrition science blogger Dr. Peter Attia is our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Prior to 2010, Dr. Peter Attia was a typical medical doctor who was trained well in prescribing medications for a variety of chronic diseases. But he decided the typical high-carb, low-fat diet he was on was not optimal for managing his weight and health and he embarked on an incremental journey to start livin’ la vida low-carb. First he cut sugar, then other white carbohydrates, then starchy carbohydrates and finally cut carbs down to 50g daily along with reducing protein to 120g per day. The result was lower body fat, improved cardiovascular markers and a marked improvement in his athletic performance.

Dr. Attia has continued to learn everything he can get his hands on about nutrition and experimenting on himself to see what works. Through his friendship with former podcast guest Gary Taubes and others, everything he thought he knew about nutrition was just plain wrong. That’s why he decided to throw his hat into the arena of ideas by creating his new blog “The War On Insulin (And The Defense Of Fat)” in 2012 to help communicate the lessons he has learned from his perspective as a physician. Within the low-carb community, there are people who take on various roles in helping to spread the healthy message of carbohydrate-restriction. There are the torchbearers who put themselves on the front lines of the battle through blogs and podcasts discussing the various topics of the day. Additionally, there are people who work within their inner spheres of influence telling friends and family members about the changes they have experienced through low-carb living. But today’s podcast guest is what I like to refer to as a “thinker” who seriously ponders the thoughts and ideas that make up the core of what we believe.

He is Adam Kosloff and you might recall I interviewed him previously in Episode 355 and shared about his 2011 e-book The Low-Carber’s Survival Guide. Well he’s back in 2012 with a brand new e-book he’s calling Beyond Caloriegate that delves even deeper into a concept he calls the “Black Box.” As long as calories in, calories out dominates the discussion of nutrition and health we will never move beyond the same old predictable results we are seeing now. Modern-day father of the Paleo Diet movement Professor Loren Cordain is our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

We owe a great deal of gratitude for the work of Professor Loren Cordain on the popularity of the Paleo diet movement that is happening in America and around the world. Through his thorough research of the diet and lifestyle of Paleolithic man, we have learned so much about how modern man should be feeding himself and doing to be optimally healthy.
