We look back at the Best Moments Of 2012 in our final episode of the year today in Episode 633 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

What a year it has been here at "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" podcast! We had another outstanding slate of fabulous interview guests for you to enjoy, learn from and glean from the wisdom they shared each week. Since this will be our final episode of 2012, we decided to look back on the year that was 2012 and share with you some of the highlights of the very best moments of the year on the podcast. There were so many great interviews this year and this is by no means a comprehensive listing. But it's a representative sample of some memorable episodes from 2012.

As I'm preparing to take some much-needed time off in the months of November and December from my ruthless podcast schedule before starting it all back up again in January 2013, it's also time to take a look back at 2012 to find out who you thought were the best "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" podcast guests of the year. This has been an annual tradition for me since I started the show and it's always fun to learn who my listeners enjoyed the most. Rather than making you only choose one (that would be cruel, I know), I give you the chance to choose up to FIVE interview guests you'd like to hear more from in a follow-up interview. Go to the podcast archives beginning with Episode 512 through the present and choose who you want to hear another interview from (the only exceptions are the 2012 "Encore Week" interviews in Episodes 525-529 who are NOT eligible) that will air during "Encore Week" 2013 airing December 31, 2012 through January 4, 2013.

To nominate your favorite guests, here's what you need to do:

1. Scroll through the podcast archives beginning with Episode 512
2. Listen to any interviews you might have missed
3. Select up to five (5) nominees and why you are choosing them
4. Put "ENCORE WEEK" in subject line and e-mail to livinlowcarbman@charter.net
5. Submit your entries no later than Friday, December 7, 2012

Once we determine who the top five interview guests of 2012 were as voted on by my listeners, then I'll contact them to request another interview to be recorded in December. If any of them declines, then I'll go to the next highest vote-getter on the list. We had some pretty awesome interview guests in 2012 who are eligible to be nominated for "Encore Week" 2013. Perhaps we'll see people like the ones you'll hear in today's episode amongst the top five returning guests. It's all in YOUR hands now to come up with a list of your FIVE favorite guests. Here's your chance to tell me who you thought were the best of the best interview guests from 2012.

I can't wait to see who you come up with and sharing these brand new interviews with you again coming up December 31, 2012-January 4, 2013! Get your votes in today and don't forget to tell me why you enjoyed those guests the most. THANK YOU so much for your continued support for "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" and we can't wait for 2013!

Nationally-known weight loss, nutritional health expert and bestselling author Dr. Jonny Bowden returns again as our guest today in Episode 632 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Heart disease is now the #1 killer despite the fact it is almost completely preventable through lifestyle choices. However, traditional heart disease protocols--with an emphasis on lowering cholesterol--have it completely wrong.

After his publisher wanted him to write a book about lowering cholesterol for improving heart health, Dr. Jonny Bowden had to convince them that emerging new science is showing that cholesterol levels are a poor predictor of heart disease and that standard prescriptions for lowering it, such as the highly ineffective low-fat, high-carb diets and serious, side-effect-causing statin drugs, obscure the real causes of heart disease. Even doctors at leading institutions have been misled for years based on creative reporting of research results from pharmaceutical companies intent on supporting the $31-billion-a-year cholesterol-lowering drug industry.

Listen in to Jimmy and Jonny talk about his brand new book on this subject entitled The Great Cholesterol Myth: Why Lowering Your Cholesterol Won't Prevent Heart Disease and the Statin-Free Plan That Will releasing on Thursday, November 1, 2012. Learn why medical professionals obsess over cholesterol numbers, the role statin drug companies have played in perpetuating the lie, how to truly improve heart health naturally and so much more. If you've got "high cholesterol" and are worried about what it means to your cardiovascular health, then you need to listen to what Dr. Jonny Bowden has to share in today's interview.

Fitness, nutrition and weight loss expert and author JJ Virgin is our guest today in Episode 631 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

We've heard it many times before, but it's still true now more than ever before: YOUR FAT IS NOT YOUR FAULT! Are you eating all the "right" things—low-fat yogurt, egg-white omelets, whole-grain bread, even tofu—but still can’t lose the weight? Your favorite “diet” foods may be to blame. JJ Virgin knows just a thing or two about this subject railing against these so-called "healthy" foods for many years as a popular nutritional health expert on the The Dr. Phil Show, ABC's Extreme Makeover and the co-star of the TLC reality show Freaky Eaters.

JJ is back with a brand new book that identifies 7 key food allergies that are preventing you from losing weight and getting healthy. It's called The Virgin Diet where she encourages readers to "drop 7 foods, lose 7 pounds, just 7 days." Far too many people have negative reactions to certain foods and never know that it could be a food intolerance wreaking havoc on their weight loss efforts. These foods that JJ outlines in her new book lead to inflammation which leads to a whole host of chain reaction problems. Listen in as Jimmy and JJ talk about why these 7 foods are so egregious, what anti-inflammatory foods you can consume to reclaim your health and heal your metabolism and get your weight loss efforts back on track again. JJ is an enthusiastic voice in the weight loss world, so don't miss what she has to say in today's interview!

Professor of medicine and fructose obesity researcher Dr. Richard Johnson is our guest today in Episode 630 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

When Dr. Richard Johnson from the University of Colorado Denver first appeared in Episode 223 of the podcast in January 2009 discussing his book The Sugar Fix where he hypothesized that fructose alone was the root cause behind obesity and chronic disease, Jimmy challenged him about his theory during that interview encouraging him to examine the role of ALL carbohydrates on metabolic health. And so he did. Now Dr. Johnson is back to discuss his newfound support for low-carb nutrition in his brand new 2012 book entitled The Fat Switch published by the great online health advocate Dr. Joseph Mercola. Listen in as Jimmy and Dr. Johnson discuss what he found when he started researching how carbohydrates respond in the body, what led him to shift his views on the cause of obesity from fructose to all carbohydrates, and what it takes to turn on and off the "fat switch." This is a fantastic conversation you'll enjoy from one of the world's top obesity researchers.

NBC-TV's "The Biggest Loser" Season 2 At-Home Winner and nutritional health author Pete Thomas is our guest today in Episode 627 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Ever since "The Biggest Loser" first hit the airwaves in the same year Jimmy lost 180 pounds on the Atkins diet in 2004, it has both inspired people to get active about losing weight and simultaneously sent the wrong messages about the kind of nutrition and exercise it takes to not just lose the weight but keep it off for good. Former contestant Pete Thomas knows just a thing or two about this subject. Jimmy got a better sense for this in his December 2007 interview with Pete about his amazing weight loss and healthy lifestyle change.

As the most successful "Biggest Loser" contestant in the show's history after shedding 185 pounds in his nine-month experience winning the $100,000 at-home prize in the reality weight loss program seen by millions weekly, Pete has spent most of the seven years that have elapsed promoting what it takes not just to lose the weight quickly but also keep it off for the rest of your life. He's written a brand new book about this subject in 2012 called Lose It Fast, Lose It Forever: A 4-Step Permanent Weight Loss Plan from the Most Successful "Biggest Loser" of All Time with a special foreword written by his his trainer on the show Jillian Michaels.

Listen in to hear Jimmy and Pete (who have been friends for years connected by their triple-digit weight loss successes) gab it up about the realities of what happens after losing a ton of weight, what role carbohydrate-restriction plays in controlling weight and how to make the changes you make in your diet and health stick. Get inspired by this incredible long-term weight loss success!

Australian nutrition author and health activist Christine Cronau is our guest today in Episode 626 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

As bad as the obesity epidemic is in the United States, it's even worse in the country of Australia. That's why it's great to have people who are enthusiastic about high-fat, low-carb living sharing the message so passionately there like Christine Cronau. While others like former podcast guest David Gillespie have published books on the importance of avoiding sugar, Christine is the first author extolling the virtues of consuming dietary fat with the release of her new book The Fat Revolution: Why Butter And Real Fats Actually Make Us Slim.

She shares in that book why reducing dietary fat actually makes us fat, sick and even depressed. Plus, she describes why the vilification is the biggest public health scam of the 21st century by presenting the facts about how dietary fats are an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. If you want to know what REALLY makes you fat and get heart disease, Christine drops some truth bombs pointing the finger of blame at the REAL culprit--carbohydrates! Listen in to hear Jimmy and Christine talk about the critical work she is doing in her home nation to bring about the changes necessary to improve the weight and health of people there and around the world.

Paleo and gluten-free diet advocates Cain & Tammy Credicott are our guests today in Episode 622 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

It's always interesting to hear about how people find their way into the Paleo community and today's interview guests have quite the journey to share. In 2008, Cain Credicott was diagnosed with Celiac disease which required him to immediately begin following a strictly gluten-free diet. He and his wife Tammy became so passionate about this that they decided to open up a gluten-free bakery to help others with some form of gluten sensitivity enjoy delicious and healthy baked goods. Unfortunately for Cain, simply cutting gluten out of his diet didn't do the trick to make him better like he had hope. It was at this point that he decided to try a gluten-free vegetarian and even a gluten-free vegan diet which predictably made him get even worse. It wasn't until Cain stumbled upon information about the Paleo diet that real improvement in his Celiac disease began to happen.

In the meantime, Tammy got busy baking in the kitchen and coming up with excellent gluten-free recipes she shared in her debut cookbook that released earlier this year called The Healthy Gluten Free Life. But with her husband Cain doing more of a Paleo diet which required him to drop the gluten plus the grains and sugars, she knew she needed to incorporate these ideas into her next cookbook. And that's exactly what she did in her latest Victory Belt book release entitled Paleo Indulgences: Healthy Gluten-Free Recipes to Satisfy Your Primal Cravings. An oh, by the way, guess what Cain decided to do with his newfound love for Paleo. He created a brand new publication you may have heard of over the past year or so called PALEO Magazine. Listen in as Jimmy speaks with this new Paleo power couple making waves on behalf of Paleo to the masses who need to hear it most!

Former vegan and UK-based author John Nicholson is our guest today in Episode 621 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Veganism has become so entrenched in our society as the epitome of "healthy living" that so many people buy into it fully without understanding the hidden consequences of eating this way. Just ask John Nicholson who committed over half of his life to vegetarianism and ultimately to being a vegan for 18 of those years until he began noticing a rather precipitous decline in his health while gaining weight. It wasn't until his 32-year life partner Dawn, who had been there with John from the time he first embraced plant-based eating, suggested they start eating meat again to regain their health that he made the fateful decision to consume animal products again for the first time in 26 years.

Their switch from a low-fat vegan diet to a high-fat meat-based diet was aided in part by the influence of a former vegan named Lierre Keith and her groundbreaking book exposing the dangers of vegetarian/vegan diets called The Vegetarian Myth (listen to my interview with Lierre in Episode 334 here). John experienced such a quick and dramatic improvement in so many aspects of his health once he added meat back into his diet again that he began on a mission to tell as many people as he could about how animal-based foods saved his health and life. He published a fantastic book about his experience in 2012 called The Meat Fix: How a Lifetime of Healthy Living Nearly Killed Me! that he hopes will influence other disillusioned vegans who desperately need to put some meat back into their diet again.

Registered nurse-midwife and women's health advocate Susan Fekety is our guest today in Episode 620 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Women these days face some rather unique health challenges requiring an effective diet and lifestyle strategy for overcoming those pesky little problems that tend to crop up. Unfortunately, the definition of what constitutes good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle change tends to be a low-fat, high-carb diet with lots of "healthy whole grains" and daily exercise. But Susan Fekety, RN, founder of Healthy Living Health Care in Falmouth, Maine, believes that scientifically-sound, intellectually honest, people-based health care is sorely needed in this day and age of rampant obesity, chronic disease and declining overall health.

Susan recognizes the importance of keeping hormones in balance, supporting healthy immunity, achieving normalized body weight, conceiving naturally, recharging libido, restoring authentic energy and preventing heart disease and diabetes. The way she gets her patients there is by addressing the carbohydrate quantity and quality as an essential element for women’s good health. Helping women eat in a way that is right for their metabolism is the centerpiece of Susan's work. Listen in as Jimmy and Susan talk about the power of a low-carb nutritional approach, why traditional health care strategies are making women's health worse and her belief that there is no one right way to eat since we are all so metabolically different.

Wife, mother, personal trainer and brand new Paleo cookbook author Chrissy Gower is our guest today in Episode 619 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

There has been a precipitous rise in interest over the past couple of years about how to best incorporate a Paleo lifestyle change into your family life. Thankfully we have so many amazing voices articulating how they are doing just that and today I'm pleased to introduce another one of them to you. Her name is Chrissy Gower from the "Growing Up Paleo" blog and the "Paleo Talk" podcast with Sarah Fragoso. She is a mother of two committed to feeding her two beautiful kids as well as she can without compromise.

Through her sister Nikki (who just so happens to be married to Mr. Paleo himself--Robb Wolf!), Chrissy discovered a passion for fitness and healthy Paleo nutrition that now drives her to bring about changes in herself, her spouse, her children and her clients. She is quite influential as one of the personal trainers at the famed NorCal Strength & Conditioning in Chico, California. And her debut book with Victory Belt releases today, October 1, 2012 called Paleo Slow Cooking: Gluten Free Recipes Made Simple. Listen in as Jimmy and Chrissy have a fantastic conversation about what's in her new book, the influence of her friend Sarah Fragoso from the "Everyday Paleo" blog on her professionally and personally and how virtually any family can infuse Paleo into their day-to-day living to get healthy and stay healthy for life.
