The concepts of this therapeutic nutritional concept for digestive health issues were shared in a book called Breaking the Vicious Cycle: Intestinal Health Through Diet by Elaine Gloria Gottschall. Listen to Jimmy speak with Jordan and Steve about why it is important to remove the carbohydrates down to those that are the easiest to digest, how the Specific Carbohydrate Diet was originally created to manage Celiac Disease, the symptoms to be paying attention to if you want to know if your digestive process is functioning well, the "Four Horsemen" you need to be wary of on your low-carb diet, what a "perfect poop" is and what's preventing it from happening, the importance of digestive enzymes and HCL in digestion for those needing assistance, the critical nature of including probiotics in your supplemental strategy, and so much more! We've been meaning to get these guys on the podcast for a while and I think you'll agree they were worth waiting for. ENJOY!

Bestselling Paleo cookbook authors Charles & Julie Mayfield are our interview guests today in Episode 728 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.”

There are so many genuinely talented and good people involved heavily in the Paleo community using their gifts to share this message with the world around them. That's what makes this movement so special and why it's such a privilege to have a front-row seat to all the key players making it happen right here on this podcast. From fitness gurus to recipe makers and everything in between, they all play a crucial role in making their mark on the world. Today's interview guests are a prime example of what's right about Paleo. They are the husband-wife (and brand new mommy-daddy) duo of Charles & Julie Mayfield from "Paleo Comfort Foods" (listen to our previous interview with them in Episode 513) who return today to talk about their brand new 2013 book release Quick & Easy Paleo Comfort Foods: 100+ Delicious Gluten-Free Recipes.

Listen in as Jimmy chats with his friends Charles and Julie about how their life has changed since their last podcast in 2011 (including the birth of their first child), how they brought "comfort foods" back en vogue again in the Paleo community, the reason why they made a book for people who don't have a lot of time to make healthy meals, why healthy food saves you time that you would normally go to the doctor from being sick, how getting a rotisserie chicken is better than a frozen lasagna, the Thanksgiving burger recipe in their new book, the snack ideas they include in their book that can be brought on an airplane or at a party, why Nutella is not a great healthy food to eat, why they think it's important to get the kids involved in creating real food recipes, and the beautiful tribute they include in the back of the book to their newborn baby Scott. If you haven't experienced this amazing man and woman yet, then don't you dare miss this interview!

Duke University medical school students Peter Wei and Alex Chamessian are our interview guests today in Episode 727 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.”

If you've been listening to this podcast over the years when Jimmy has had conversations with medical doctors, then you already know these physicians are lucky if they received one, maybe two weeks worth of nutritional education as part of their formalized training for treating their future patients. This doesn't sit too well with a future generation of medical professionals who are rising up to take a stand for the integral role diet plays in overall health.

A couple of medical school students at Duke University named Peter Wei And Alex Chamessian discovered the power of low-carb living and are now trying to communicate that message with their fellow students. They're doing this through a new book entitled Learning Medicine: An Evidence-Based Guide as well as connecting with their fellow medical school students who are also supporters of a low-carb/Paleo/primal diet at AncestralMed.org. Listen in as Jimmy speaks with Peter and Alex about this critically important endeavor to teach medical school students about the effectiveness of nutritional health protocols.

Evolutionary psychologist, Paleo blogger and author John Durant is our interview guest today in Episode 726 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.”

Taking the ancestral health message to the tens of millions of people who need to hear it the most is the intense passion of so many people who are actively promoting the Paleo and primal lifestyle through blogs, podcasts, on YouTube, social media and more! One of the leading voices in this movement is John Durant (listen to our previous podcast interview with him in Episode 379) and he's releasing his debut book called <http://www.amazon.com/The-Paleo-Manifesto-Ancient-Lifelong/dp/0307889173/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=ur2&tag=livilavidalow-20>The Paleo Manifesto: Ancient Wisdom for Lifelong Health.

Interestingly, although John uses the term "Paleo" in the title of his book, he readily admits this book really isn't as much about Paleo as it is looking at our predecessors for lessons about why we live the way we do. Listen in as Jimmy and John take a look at the Biblical rules regarding cleanliness (as John shared in his 2013 Ancestral Health Symposium talk in Atlanta), why he focused on more than just the Paleolithic Age in his book, the basic principles in our diet that we should be paying most attention to, John's first attempt at being a hunter, the nature of being a gatherer in our modern-day society, and a whole lot more! The Paleo Manifesto looks to be one of the most influential health books of 2013.

Famed neurologist, nutritional health practitioner and author Dr. David Perlmutter is our interview guest today in Episode 725 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.”

When famed cardiologist Dr. William Davis published what would go on to become a perennial New York Times bestselling book entitled Wheat Belly in 2011, his focus was on the metabolic effects of consume wheat and other culprit carbohydrates and their relationship to rampant obesity and chronic disease. Now that people are becoming more aware of how inferior consuming "healthy" whole grains really are on managing their weight and metabolic health, along comes a brand new book in 2013 that is set to add another compelling argument that perhaps the impact of carbohydrates like wheat, sugar and more on your brain health is the best reason to cut these foods out of your diet. The author is a highly-respected nutrition-minded neurologist practicing in Naples, Florida named Dr. David Perlmutter who has written the seminal book on this topic called Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth about Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar--Your Brain's Silent Killers.

Learn why Dr. Perlmutter decided to write Grain Brain:

http://youtu.be/39DfirUi2Jk

Listen in as Jimmy and Dr. Perlmutter discuss why nutritional solutions are the only thing to prevent dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases, the fact that there is no drug or cure for many of the most common brain health issues, the heavy toll that carbohydrate consumption is having on the brain, why the brain prefers to run on ketones produced by a low-carb, high-fat diet, the incredible benefits of getting into a state of nutritional ketosis, and so much more! This is perhaps one of the most interesting podcast interviews we'll share with you on "The "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" podcast in 2013. ENJOY!

Biochemistry researcher, inventor and entrepreneur Binx Selby is our interview guest today in Episode 724 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.”

We've had hundreds of guests appear on this podcast over the years and occasionally we like to bring them back for another interview. Today's interview features a man we first featured in an interview way back in December 2008 in Episode 212. His name is Binx Selby from the "BalancePoint Institute" in Boulder, Colorado and he is the Director of the Lifestyle for Health Research Institute, focusing on prevention as an answer to the healthcare problem. Binx quickly discovered the role inflammation plays on most of the chronic health issues we deal with in modern-day society and the purpose of using low-carb, high-fat diets to reduce this inflammation. Listen in as Jimmy and Binx talk about these concepts that are empowering people to take back control of their own health!

Ancestral diet researcher and author Dr. Loren Cordain is our interview guest today in Episode 722 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.”

We're back to our regular interview format again after three weeks of special Cholesterol Clarity-inspired episodes highlighting a few of the featured experts in Jimmy Moore's new book. And we come back with a bang today featuring a very enlightening conversation with the man at the heart of a recent controversy that has been all the talk in the Paleo community over the past couple of months. He is Dr. Loren Cordain, the world-famous Colorado State University professor, evolutionary diet researcher and bestselling author of The Paleo Diet, and he is here to defend the diet he has helped put on the map over the past two decades.

The dust-up all began a few months back when The Weston A. Price Foundation President Sally Fallon Morell published some rather incendiary remarks about Dr. Cordain's version of Paleo in the Summer 2013 issue of the Wise Traditions newsletter where she was answering WAPF member concerns about the differences between the diet they espouse and the Paleo diet promoted by people like Dr. Cordain and Robb Wolf. Jimmy invited Sally to appear on this podcast last month to give her an opportunity to expand upon her comments and she did so in Episode 711 sharing her sincere concerns with the lack of animal-based fats contained on the most popular Paleo diet web sites found in the top Google searches for this term (which happens to be the ones run by Dr. Cordain and Wolf). Now we give Dr. Cordain a chance to weigh in on what Sally had to say.

Listen to Jimmy and Dr. Cordain talk about what he thinks about Morell's criticisms, how he changed his mind about lean meats and revised his original book to reflect this, the clear support he has stated over and over again for saturated fat, the natural macronutrient make-up of our hunter-gatherer ancestors, his concern about the lack of scientific credentials by Morell, and a whole lot more! If you've been following this issue in the Paleo blogosphere, then you won't want to miss Dr. Cordain's exclusive response to the concerns expressed by the President of The Weston A. Price Foundation. Get the rest of the story from the man himself in today's episode.
