Medical doctor and nutrition science blogger Dr. Peter Attia is our guest today in Episode 1302 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore.
In this LLVLC Classic episode, we bring you one of the premier voices in the low-carb, high-fat community. Dr. Peter Attia from EatingAcademy.com was a typical medical doctor who was trained well in prescribing medications for a variety of chronic diseases. But he decided the typical high-carb, low-fat diet he was on was not optimal for managing his weight and health and he embarked on an incremental journey to start livin’ la vida low-carb. First he cut sugar, then other white carbohydrates, then starchy carbohydrates and finally cut carbs down to 50g daily along with reducing protein to 120g per day. The result was lower body fat, improved cardiovascular markers and a marked improvement in his athletic performance.
Dr. Attia also believes that people should find a diet plan that works for them and stick to it, finding that consistency is key. Listen in today as Jimmy and Dr. Attia talk about what he learned about nutrition in medical school, how he found himself overweight and felt like he was doing everything right, setting out to find what the problem was, why low-carb is not a 'silly fad', doctors who thought he was “crazy” but were open-minded, “unnecessary human suffering” that takes place prior to death, the trend in newer studies focusing on calories are deceptive, the JAMA study from Pennington researchers in January 2012, and much more in this exciting episode.
