Paleo blogger and New York Times bestselling cookbook author Russ Crandall is our guest today in Episode 1012 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.”
One of the most difficult temptations that so many people must face when they go low-carb or Paleo is the desire for their favorite dishes from their favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, these have far too many sugary and grain-based carbohydrates, vegetable oils, and other suspect ingredients to be healthy for you anymore. That's what led a talented home cook named Russ Crandall from "The Domestic Man" blog to recreate these popular recipes and make them Paleo-friendly for people wanting to eat healthier in his brand new New York Times bestselling book Paleo Takeout: Restaurant Favorites Without the Junk. Russ has quite the compelling story about how he suffered from a series of life-threatening illnesses, including a rare autoimmune condition that doctors told him could only be managed with a handful of prescription medications he would have to take daily for the rest of his life. This didn't sit well with him, so he set forth on a journey to fix his health with nutrition by cutting out gluten and consuming nutrient-dense, real, whole foods instead--and his health instantaneously was restored.
Listen in as Jimmy and Russ talk about the physical and emotional toll of his declining health, how Paleo pulled him out of the pits of health calamity into the vibrant man he is today, how his love for cooking led him to want to provide recipes for others on their own healing journey, the exciting plan he had to release an e-book with popular restaurant favorites done Paleo-styled that caught the attention of a major publisher, who he wrote Paleo Takeout for, and his stance on the whole white rice vs. brown rice vs. cauliflower rice controversy. Russ is one of the really good guys in the Paleo community and we think you're gonna love what he has to share in today's interview. ENJOY!
