Licensed clinical psychologist Melissa Grabau is our interview guest today in Episode 887 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.”
Have you ever stopped to wonder why some
people are able to fully latch on to a lifestyle change to produce
amazing results in their weight and health while others seems to
lack that internal fire and motivation to make it happen for
themselves? What is the difference between those who succeed and
those who remain mired in the mediocrity of their current habits?
This is something that is not really talked about a lot in the
Paleo, primal, and low-carb communities and yet Roseville,
California-based clinical psychologist Melissa Grabau,
PhD identifies this as the "vital missing ingredient" in
the ability of the health community to bring about real
paradigm-shifting change on a massive scale. As a certified yoga
teacher who integrates specific mind-body techniques from her
training as a psychotherapist, Melissa has found those principles
can help people make the changes they sincerely desire to make
which she has outlined in her new book The
Yoga of Food: Wellness from the Inside Out.
Listen in to hear Jimmy and Melissa dig deeper into why certain people change but most people don't, her own healing that took place using a Paleo diet, the deep attachment she felt to foods and why she was reluctant to shift her eating to a better way, why the Paleo community needs to do more than pay lip service to meditation and lifestyle, why any lasting change needs to happen in the mind before it happens in the body, the courage it takes to question your conditioning towards eating a certain way, why we all need a crisis in our lives to wake us up to change, the negative role anxiety plays on our lifestyle and eating habits, why people have a hard time giving up their so-called "comfort foods," how Paleo and yoga can work in unison, why so many people who are into yoga eat a vegan diet, the intimidation factor of the online health community to people in the modern food culture, how to make the message of change more palatable to the general public, and a whole lot more. This conversation gets pretty deep at moments, but it's something we definitely need to be talking a whole lot more about as the health message we are promoting becomes more and more mainstream.
